SoundMasses is a generative audio piece presented in a virtual reality environment.

Three "sound objects" perform endlessly using a library of hundreds of samples written by Kevin Anthony and recorded by Hannah Johnson and Stuart Wheeler. The samples are static compositions ranging from a few milliseconds to twelve seconds.

Each sound object has distinct parameters that dictate its performance behaviors. A sound object may choose to be silent, to perform its own volition, or to sing within the same aesthetic of another sound object.

The result is emerging personalities that define each sound object. As the sound objects interact with each other, their choices and emotions become apparent.

Spaces is a generative audio piece for one interacting performer on the AudioDome.

The audio samples are synthesized, recorded, and manipulated. Three of the photocells control volume levels on three separate generative tracks, each corresponding to a specific aesthetic. One photocell controls pitch shift. One photocell controls a basic flanger. The piezo sensor is used to trigger discrete sound events.

The performer interacts with the performance choices of the system by increasing and decreasing volume, altering volume levels of all tracks, and triggering discrete sound events.

Spaces attempts to encapsulate the relationship between the sonification of human and machine motion.

SoundPainter is a performance and recording instrument.

The system allows a performer to place audio in a three-dimensional space, and then explore the sound with their hand.

In the summer of 2015, I became obsessed with the idea of molding sound in a physical space. Several months later, SoundPainter is now a functional system stable enough for live performance.

It was chosen to represent the BYU Graduate School of Music at the BYU Grad Expo. SoundPainter was voted among the top 5 displays.
